welcome to america's knitting
Leigh Radford

An artist using knitting as a medium; that is how Leigh Radford describes herself.  Leigh is definitely artistic and showing good taste.  She is also touring the yarn shops to teach her newest creative love Shibori.  We all know Leigh for her books Oneskein and AlterKNITS.

Leigh is a busy lady living in Portland Oregon with her studio/office at home.  When asked what the favorite part of her job was, she answered, the experimental and research process and also admits to yarn being all over the house.  YES, she’s a knitter!

Her first book AlterKNITS really reflects Radford’s creativity, asking her readers/knitters to stretch their minds and knit outside the box.  It’s almost a workshop in a book, or a workbook.  Her second book Oneskein was more up my alley.  This book had everything; the simple and mindless to the creative and challenging.  I just love the fact that you could make something with just one skein of yarn.  I think most knitters agree that we are addicted not only to knitting, but buying yarn.  Isn’t it nice to think that you could go into a yarn shop and buy just one skein of yarn?  It’s also a great way to try a yarn, just to see if you’d want to knit that larger project with it, or even knit wiith it again.  How many times have we all bought 10 skeins of some yarn to knit a sweater and say "I'll never knit with this yarn again"?  The book also doesn’t leave out the crocheters.  SO, way to go Leigh!

Leigh is busy with two new books to come out this year; One More Skein in August of 2008 and AlterKNITS Felt in October of 2008.  We will look forward to seeing those for sure.  One More Skein, takes her prior book to the next level with quick projects for the more experienced knitter with cables and other techniques beyond the new knitter, using two skeins of yarn.   You can probably imagine what AlterKNITS Felt might be about – can’t wait!!

Leigh Radford has another side to her, other than knitting.  Leigh loves to read, cook, paint and travel.  She also had some parting words that she wanted me to pass along to all of you:  “Learn and explore, open yourself up to a new thing”.  Visit Leigh Radford’s website to learn more about this exciting lady.
