welcome to america's knitting
Debbie Macomber

Debbie Macomber is an engaging, fun and lively person.  I sat down with her for an interview and found her to be someone that I felt I’d known my whole life.  Maybe that was because I had read a number of her books and maybe it was because she makes you feel so comfortable.

The first thing that many of you may want to know is whether there will be another BLOSSOM STREET book.  The answer is yes, and Summer On Blossom Street is the title. There isn’t a release date yet, however Debbie does have a new book out now, which I am enjoying, called Knit Together. It’s a book on faith, where Debbie shares her thoughts, as well as scriptures from the Bible that have sustained her over the years through life’s challenges.

I asked Debbie…..why she became a writer.  Her answer was that she could have been an actress.  She loves the entertainment field, is a story teller and has a flair for drama.  She wanted to use the talents God gave her to make others happy.

Debbie is a writer, a wife, a mother and a Grandmother, a Christian, and a knitter.  When I was chatting with Debbie, she was working on a hat called the “Aristocrat Beret” in blue.  I was also curious if she, like the rest of us, searches out and plans trips to yarn shops when she is traveling.  She confirmed it…..when traveling on a book signing tour to promote her books; she has her assistant Renate look into local yarn shops to visit and actually books them into her itinerary.  If the stores sell her Blossom Street books, she also signs the books while she’s there.  Debbie loves knitting all kinds of projects from the vest she’s wearing in the picture to presents for her grandkids.  She says she most likely won’t be knitting any skirts or bikinis however.  Debbie’s favorite color is teal and she says there seems to be more of that color in her stash than anything else.

Along with her mission statement, “I will be a blessing”, I loved this quote “Luck is preparation and beats opportunity…..the harder I worked, the luckier I got”!  That was a little advice Debbie passed along during our talk.  Here is a quote from her new book:

Take pride in who and what you are because you are special in God’s eyes. Deuteronomy 4:32 says, “From the day God created man and woman on this Earth…..as far back as you can imagine and as far away as you can imagine – has as great a thing as this ever happened?” (the Message).  You are a unique human being; there’s only one in the world like you.  Embrace the blessings God has given you, and be ready to give something back.

Thank you Debbie Macomber for meeting with me, it was a pleasure!
