Ana-Cross
Stitch
Meet Kristi Gabrielse! Kristi
is the new owner of Ana-Cross Stitch as of September
1, 2007. For those that don’t know, Ana-Cross
Stitch is a wonderful shop dedicated to needlework
of all kinds, located in Anacortes Washington.
Anacortes, otherwise known as Fidalgo Island is
the gateway to the San Juan Islands. There
are so many activities here; I don’t know where
to begin. They have parks abundant, as well
as bird watching, whale watching tours, camping,
crabbing, boating, cycling, golfing, hiking, shopping
and knitting.
There also
seems to be a rather large creative community ranging
from writers, artists, musicians, and the stitching
community encompassing, quilters, knitters, crocheters,
and the cross-stitch and needlepoint people.
Anacortes also has many events that go on in this town
over the course of the year, including the Garden Art
Fair in April, the Waterfront Festival in May, Shipwreck
Day in July, the ever popular Oyster Run in September
to the St. Nicholas Celebration in December.
Lois Slotemaker owned the shop for 15
years before turning it over to Kristi. Lois still
plans to help out and also do a little teaching for Kristi. Kristi
was not only a valued customer to Lois, but also worked
at Tesoro, a local refinery. Kristi plans to bring
the shop up to speed with the latest technology for her
website, stock, inventory and purchasing. Kristi
has always loved the idea of a “window” campaign and
has big plans for the store display windows. The
shop not only caters to gals that knit and crochet, but
also to the gals that do needlepoint and cross-stitch. She
is very proud of her complete Rainbow Gallery. She
says that the store is also a resource for the quilters
and their embellishment needs. The stores yarn
selection is definitely wide and deep.
Kristi herself loves to knit the felted
bags. She loves the Cascade 220 line for their
lovely color selection. She also loves to knit
the occasional sweater but says making the shop her own
is a main priority at this point.
On your travels, if you are planning on a trip to the San
Juans, please stop by Ana-Cross Stitch before catching
a ferry. Anacortes is a wonderful spot and so is
Ana-Cross Stitch, and I know Kristi will be glad to see
you!
