NEBRASKA

This month, we are trying something a little bit different and we'll see how it goes.  We are focusing on all things Nebraska!  Nebraskan knitters, yarn shops in Nebraska, and yarns from Nebraska.  I'd love to see some fun participation.  If this goes well, we'll start the bidding on some other states having a month of their own.

Kathy in Omaha knit the Dayflowers and Leaves Prayer Stole by Stephanie Martin.  The yarn she used is a Knit Picks merino wool/sink blend fingering weight yarn called Bare.  It's beautiful Kathy BEAUTIFUL!

Susie of Bellevue Nebraska knit up these Fingerless Gloves by Marilyn Losee using Knit Picks Swish Worsted.  She did shorted up the pattern a bit, but otherwise liked the pattern, and would definately make more.  They are very pretty - thanks for sharing Susie.

Royal lives in Nebraska and her LYS is String of Purls out of Omaha.  She knit Jared Flood's (of Brooklyn Tweed) Noro Striped Scarf using Noro Aurora and Noro Silk Garden Lite.  She calls it her "Glitz Glam" Noro Striped Scarf.  Personally, I love a little bling where ever I can get it.....nice job Royal!

Meet Tana of Waverly Nebraska.  What about these shoes.....have you ever seen anything like it before?  I haven't, but that's what they are Malabrigo Loafers by Julie Weisenberger.  The yarn Tana used was Cherry Tree Hill Wooly Alpaca in the color Lavender Fields.  AMAZING~

Here's another entry from Erin.  Again, Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece to go with the blanket for baby Aiden.....isn't she a genius???

My friend Erin from Long Beach California made this baby blanket for baby Aiden using Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece.  Erin is one of those knitters that just starts out and knits something - no pattern necessary.....love you Erin xox!

Lindsay is from Omaha Nebraska and she made the Mitered Square Blanket from the book Mason * Dixon Knitting by Kay Gardiner and Ann Meador Shayne.  Lindsay used Elsebeth Lavold's Silky Wool.  This blanket was a wedding gift and Lindsay said it took forever.  I believe that!  But what a great job you did and what a gift from the heart.  Nice job Lindsay!  Look for this book at your local yarn shop~

Here is another entry from Jen.....she called this her experiment.  She took the motif pattern (butterflies & flowers) from the Fair Isle Band Cushion by Carline Birkett in the book Hand Knits for the Home, and decided to use it in a hat instead of a cushion.  The yarn she used was Debbie Bliss Merino DK.  You did such a good job creating this hat.  It's a collaboration of sorts - the beautiful motif design by Caroline Birkett and the great hat idea from Jen.  I'll bet that's really fun to wear~

Jen of Omaha has double the blessings in these cutie patooties.  Jen knit her girls these adorable pullovers using Mission Falls 1824 Wool - LOVE the stripes!  The pattern Jen used is from Knitting Pure & Simple; Baby Pullover #214.

I just love this.....this is just stinkin cute!  Here's Chimay the Dachshund and her mini me.  Thea from Nebraska crocheted this little dog using a pattern by June Gilbank called AmiDogs.  Thea used ONline Linie 226-Outland for yarn and her LYS is The Yarn Shop in Lincoln Nebraska.  Thanks for participating Thea and Chimay is the cutest dog ever!  You can see more of June on her website.

Here's Sarah from Omaha in her Rizzo Sweater.  That's what she affectionately calls it, because it reminds her of Rizzo from "Grease".  Actually though, it's the Split-Neckline Cap Sleeve Tee from the book Fitted Knits by Stefanie Japel.  Sarah used Cyrstal Palace's Mikado Ribbon Solid and her LYS is String of Purls also in Omaha.  So many gals don't knit sweaters for themselves because they can't knit them to fit, but Sarah did just that - you look great!  Pink Ladies 4ever Sarah!  Look for the book Fitted Knits at your LYS, and knit a sweater to fit.

Look at these cute baby booties knit by Meghan in Omana.  She couldn't recall the yarn that she used, but the booties are titled Saartje's Booties by Saartje de Bruijn.  Visit Saartje's website for the pattern.  Thanks Meghan~

Christa from Omaha learned to knit when she was eight.  I love her Mystic Light Shawl by Anna Dalvi.  Christa used the Kauni Effectgarn 8/2 in Blue-Green.  It's lovely - you did a great job, nice lace!  I'll bet you get loads of compliments on this when you wear it~

Sarah lives in the panhandle part of Nebraska and knit this beautiful cardigan sweater for her daughter.  The pattern name is Helena by Alison Green Will and published by Knitty.com.  Sarah used a yarn called Bellamoden Superwash Merino Sport to knit this us.  Really pretty!

Jess, a Lincolnite made these Give a Hoot mittens using Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn.  Jess made these mittens in November, and I'll bet she's glad she did.  It's suppose to get up to 11* today in Lincoln.  Nice move Jess, stay warm~

Robyn of Omaha knit these Earflap Hats for a baby shower present - I'm guessing a set of twins.  You can find the pattern for this hat in a book called Knitting For Baby by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas.  Robyn used Red Heart Ltd. Sport Solid and they look terrific.  A gift from the heart - way to go Robyn!

Beth lives in Franklin Nebraska and has a hairless dog named Una.  Living in Nebraska, I can imagine that Una needed a sweater, it's dog cold there in the winter!!  Beth didn't have a pattern, but simply knit this sweater for Una, using Noro Kureyon.   Cute huh??  Beth not only knits, but dyes yarn as well.....please visit her website.  Beths' LYS is ImagiKnit Yarn Shop in Hastings Nebraska.

Leslie from Lincoln, made the Childrens Felted Clogs (CH-38) by Bev Galeskas of Fiber Trends.  I see a slight adaptation to the pattern in the form of Spider Man affectionately termed Spiderman Feet by Leslie.  Leslie used Cascade 220 wool yarn to knit up these clogs.  Very inventive Leslie!  Fiber Trends is a sponsor of America's Knitting~

Rose from Omaha knit these cool Pirate Mittens designed by Adrian Bizilia and published by Hello Yarn.  Rose used Cascade's Cash Vero DK to knit up these mittens.....thing is, now her boys each want a pair.  Rose's LYS is String of Purls

Nice mittens Rose, they are very cool!!!

Kay lives in Nebraska too and she likes to knit dishclothes.  I really like this one by Amy Carpenter called the Round Dishcloth to me it looks star shape.  Kay used Lily's Sugar N Cream Stripes yarn.  What a nice house warming gift or just a functional use for our knitting.  Thank you Kay & Amy~

Angela Morrow lives in Whitefish Montana, but used to live in West Central Nebraska.  While shopping at the Brown Sheep Factory Store, Angela purchased this Lamb's Pride Strawberry Smoothy yarn to make her daughters vest.  The pattern she used was Knitting Pure and Simple's Vest for Children.  Angela's favorite yarn shop while in Nebraska is Prairie Hand Knits in North Platte, while in Montana, Angela shops at Knit and Needle in Whitefish.  Angela also nominates Montana for the next featured state.  This little girls looks feezing~

Erin from Nebraska not only crocheted this afghan, but is the designer of it too.  I think it's really pretty and the color possibilities would be endless.  Nice work Erin - thanks for sharing.  To see how this afghan is made visit Erin's blog.

Ok, we got a lot goin' on here.  Liz from Nebraska went to town knitting this very sweet baby ensemble.  First, we have Bananahead's Baby Beanie by vibeknits, along with the Harvey Kimono by Louisa Harding and the Two-Needle Socks by Debbie Bliss.  The kimono pattern can be found in "Natural Knits for Babies and Moms", and the sock pattern can be found in "Baby Knits for Beginners" by Debbie Bliss.  She tied the whole thing together using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino.  There is a very lucky and loved baby out there somewhere.  Liz bought her yarn at String of Purls.  I think Louise at the store is right.....looks like "husker" red!

Jen from Illinois used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky to made this magnificent sweater.  I have always wanted to make a yoked sweater.  The pattern (Designs #19 & 20 by Guony Palsdottir from the Reynolds Lopi Volumn 17 book) called for Lopi by Reynolds, but it looks like the Lamb's Pride Bulky did the trick.  I also want to mention that Jen is a certified Master Knitter and you can read more with her on her blog.

Here's another Brown Sheep entry, Sierra's Father-in-law Hat.  Sierra lives in Nevada City California, and this is her own personal pattern.  Sierra says that she does have connections to Nebraska though, as her own Father was raised on a farm in Randolph, and often would visit there as a child.  She has many fond memories of her visits.  Sierra used the Lamb's Pride Worsted on this hat and it's for her Father-in-law that lives on a boat.  Way to go taking care of the Father-in-law Sierra; you're a gem~

Lisa is not from Nebraska, but she is from Montgomery Center Vermont.  The reason she gets this post is because she used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted on her fabulous hat.  The Brown Sheep Yarn Company is located in Mitchell Nebraska and this is Nebraska month here at America's Knitting.  The title of this hat is Cabled Watch Cap by Karen D. Kendrick-Hands and you can find the pattern in the Knit Simple Magazine, issue Winter 2006/07.  The color is Sapphire.  Beautiful job Lisa and thank you so much for participating~

Mary from Omaha made the Fetching Gloves by Cheryl Niamath featured on Knitty, during the summer of 2006.  The yarn she used was called Adriafil Knitcol.  Perfect for this time of year.  Nice job Mary~

Another project by Karen Bednarz this double knit scarf called Knit Star Scarf by Angela Kreutzer.  Karen used Red Heart Super Saver Solids.  What a fun scarf!  She mentioned that she did alter the pattern by reversing the stars on the end so that they would look the same when it was worn around the neck.  I just finished a double knitting scarf for a Christmas gift and it was a great learning experience.  That process does use more yarn but it's really fun - nice job Karen, thanks!

Heather Miller lives in Omaha and she has two entries.....the sweater is called Pimlico Shrug and you can find the pattern in the book Knit 2 Together by Tracey Ullman and Mel Clark.  Heather used Caron Simply Soft for this project.  Now, the socks are Jaywalker Socks by Grumperina Designs.  Heather used Felici yarn by Knit Picks.  Nice job Heather.

Karen Bednarz of Omaha Nebraska got the 2008 Nebraska State Fair "Best of Knitting" Champion award for this exquisite Norwegian sweater.  The sweater pattern is called Telemark by Sandnes Design from 1998.  Yarn used on this sweater was Peer Gynt.  For this project Karen shopped at String of Purls but says "life is good" in the LYS department.  Karen, you look like a champion to me in your sweater - hats off, and thanks for participating.

Kath Myers is from Omana Nebraska and has been knitting for 30 years.  Last summer she got hooked on mobius and there is one of her creations the Mobius Capelet.  Kath used Bamboozle by Crystal Palace.  Bamboozle is a bamboo, cotton and nylon blend yarn.  Thanks for participating Kath~

Lisa is from Lincoln Nebraska and this is her Christine Bag  by Knittingnonstop.  Lisa used Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Superwash Bulky.  Speaking of The Brown Sheep Company, Lisa has visited the factory and said it was well worth the trip to Mitchell Nebraska and that the people there were very welcoming and lovely.  Although Lisa lives in Lincoln, her favorite yarn shop is also Personal Threads Boutique in Omaha.  Love the bag, and the red is perfect - very classy!  You can see more about Lisa on her blog.

First up is Kara Brown from Omaha.  She sounds like "Wonder Woman" to me.....she decided she wanted to make this Lite Lopi Sweater which can be found in the "Best of Interweave Knits".  So what does she do - dye the wool, spin the wool and then knit the sweater.  VERY ambitious!  Nice job Kara and thanks for participating.  Kara's favorite yarn shop is Personal Threads Boutique~
