Crochet Today

|
Crochet is the same, but at the same time really brought up to current times, just like knitting. I've taken many a class, 4 to be exact and it ended up the same all four times, with me swearing like a sailor. I do appreciate the work however and like it very much. I particularly like crocheted baby blankets. All the work performed with one hook. Last October I visited Unraveled Yarn & Artful Gifts in Federal Way, Washington and saw my first Tunisian crochet.
Crochet got it's first popularity in 19th century Europe. My husband Grandmother used to crochet a lot. We have an afghan made by her and both our boys had baby blankets made by her as well. Enjoy this month and email over your entries to mary@americasknitting.com

Here is an entry from my LYS, Churchmouse Yarns & Teas, here on Bainbridge Island, in Washington state. It's their Vintage Crocheted Blanket, available in their Wee Ones Collection. They suggest Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran or Mission Falls 1824 Wool.
Heather comes to us from Montana, and she crocheted the Little Button Loafers by Sylvia Schurchardt. Heather used Berroco's Vintage on this project and purchased her yarn at Knit 'n Needle Yarn Shoppe in Whitefish, Montana.
Thank you Heather for participating in crochet month, come back often to see what we are up to!
Rachelle is from Massachusetts. Below, is the Simply Precious Baby Afghan by Herrschners, using Herrschners Baby Sparkle yarn. This is a kit project by Herrschners and it's very sweet - pretty in pink! Thanks Rachelle for sharing your crochet with us!
Karen McKenna is back, this time with her Fun Neckwarmer. This pattern is available in hard copy version only at Linda's Knit & Stitch in Silverdale Washington (3382 B NW Carlton). The yarn that Karen used here is from Koigu. It would go perfectly with the ruffled fingerless mitts below. She probably planned it that way ;-) Thanks Karen~

Andrea lives here in my home state of Washington and she designed and crocheted these stylin Lovely Lace Handwarmers. You seem here made up in Frog Tree Alpace Wool Fingering (yummy). It's a Ravelry download look in patterns under Andrea Brush. Thank you Andrea for your contribution!
Anne is from Ohio, and she crocheted the Roundabout Cardigan by kim Kotary using Elann Bamboo Fusion in Natural. I love the ruffling, I love the 3/4 sleeves (perfect for wearing bracelets), and I love the fit on you. A+ great job!!!! It's stunning. Thank you so much Anne for sharing your work with us.
Karen lives in Connecticut, and here you see the Half Granny Square shawl by Amber Enid Alcala in Noro Silk Garden Sock from WEBS. This is so pretty and shawls are so popular now. Karen is a very proud Associate Professional in the CGOA. Many of her designs have been published by Caron Intl, Coats & Clark & Interweave. Karen also teaches both crochet & knit, and enjoys testing patterns for others and is always working on charity projects for local shelters (both people & critters). Thank you Karen for participating in Crochet Month here on America's Knitting.
Valerie of Vermont crocheted these amazing Mukluks using Mirasol Yarn Tupa from Jimmy Beans Wool. The exact name of the pattern is Chukchi: Crochet Mukluks & Slipper Socks by Erssie Major and it's a Ravelry download. These are quite interesting and thank you Valerie for the email. I've never seen anything like these before.
Pam in Connecticut crocheted this adorable Ladybug Afghan by Janice Slocum. Pam used Red Heart Ltd. Classic Solid yarn for the project. You can find the pattern for this little afghan in the book Herrschners Juvenile Afghans 2008 National Afghan Contest Winners. Wouldn't this be so cute in a nursery. Nice work Pam - LOVE IT!
Karen McKenna, living in Washington state, not only crocheted these mitts, but designed them too. She is a talent selling lots of her patterns to big names such as Cascade Yarns. Linda's Knit & Stitch of Silverdale, Washington has the rights to this pattern, so call the shop if you want the pattern (360-698-7556). Karen used Koigu Painters Palette Premium Merino KPPPM. This pattern comes in two sizes; small/medium and also medium/large. I like it ruffle, it's a sweet touch! Nice work Karen, keep up the good work.
We will start this month off with my dear friend Kristin Gumpert of Moose Threads. I'm so lucky to know so many talented people. Kristen is amazing - her work is so creative. Enjoy and visit her Etsy store! Thanks Kristen for kicking us off here.
