PINKtober

October is the month chosen to focus our attention and care to the disease of Breast Cancer. All of us have known someone in our lives that has fought the battle with cancer. So scary to get a diagnosis like this, your life gets turned upside down and inside out. I would like to dedicate this page, this month in our knitting to those struggling, suffering and fighting the fight. We've all seen the chemo caps and have knit beautiful pink scarves, but you could knit someone a warm sweater from the heart, a cheerful pair of socks, mitts even. Show us your pink and knit for someone else or even yourself as a sign of support and solidarity. At the end of the month, we will have a 'Best in Pink' prize. You don't necessarily need to knit with pink, it's all about the story. |

Carmel is a regular contributor living here in Washington state. She has knit the Emma shawl by Kim de la Cruz. Carmel used Cascade Yarns 220 Wool in Light Pink. The pattern for this shawl can be purchased on Ravelry. Carmel's LYS is So Much Yarn in Seattle, Washington, and if you'd like to know more about Kim de la Cruz, here is her blog.

Here is an entry from my local yarn shop, Churchmouse Yarns & Teas. It's the Mohair Bias Loop, in their classics collection. It's knit with Rowan's Kid Silk Haze. It's warm, versatile, and feminine; just what a gal needs when she's going through a hard time. Anything that can keep you warm, and can also make you feel pretty, works!

Fig Tree Alley Fiber Arts owner Julia Arnold sent in this submission. This shawl was designed by their own in-house knitting expert Marian Parker. This shawl was designed especially for their class......when I saw this shawl, I immediately said "oooooh". The pattern is available, just contact the store and they will help you. Fig Tree Alley Fiber Arts is located in Sacramento, California. Thank you Julia, and WOW!
Kim Van Buskirk of Texas had a friend battling stage four melanoma, so she knit her the Lace-Edged Women's Hat by Julie Hentz. The yarn that Kim chose for this project was Berroco Palace, and she purchased it on one of her many LYS travels, The yarn and Fiber Company in Derry New Hampshire. This pattern is a free Ravelry download for Ravelry members. Thank you Kim for sharing your story.....
