Holiday Express

|
Happy Holidays to everyone! I use the word express, because the season seems to fly by so fast, and with never enough time to squeeze all our knitting in.
With all the parties, shopping and holiday activities, it's exhausting just thinking about it all. December is a month long, but it's the fastest month of the year.
BUT -- having said that, enjoy all that the season has to offer. Enjoy the knitting, the lights, the music, the treats, and the family. Enjoy it and make some memories and traditions to last a lifetime.
I have a few things on the needles and I don't know yet whether I will get them finished in time. Please email me with photos of your projects and I will add them to the page. I hope to have 31 projects listed here, one for each day of the month, so get a knittin'!!

Kathie Malcher from here in Washington state knit this adorable childs toy, Hobby Horse by Ann Budd. You can find the pattern for this horse in the book Knitted Gifts, also by Ann Budd. Ask for it at your LYS, if they don't carry this book, they should. It's adorable and would made a fun gift at the holiday time. Kathie used Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Worsted for this project. I haven't seen a felted item like this before. FUN -- thank you Kathie for sharing your work!
My friend Melissa, used to live here in Washington, but moved to the state of Virginia - we all really miss her. She's a young woman with two active boys. She sent me this picture of all these hats that she knit for all her nieces and nephews for Christmas. She has been busy, wow Meliss, I'm impressed! I love that they are all so different - I can tell you had a lot of fun doing this! Loved hearing from you, and thanks for thinking of me and the website.

Carol from here in Washington is back with
something she knit for a Christmas present. This is the Dolly Faroese Shawl from Heartstrings Fiberarts knit with DK merino from Fancy Image Yarn. It is going to a little niece who has an American Girl doll. Thank you Carol!
Elaine is from Ohio, and here she's gotten very creative with this scarf. The beautiful fair isle work you see has been patterned from the cardigan Hillswick Lumber from the book The Art of Fair Isle Knitting by Ann Feitelson (ask for it at your LYS). The yarn that Elaine used is Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift. Elaine wasn't quite ready to tackle the cardigan, so she took some of the designs and created this scarf. The fair isle part is knit in the round, therefore double thickness and nice and warm for the winter months. I think it's unique and beautiful, and finished at 6 3/4" x 60". Thank you Elaine for sharing your lovely scarf.
Lidia in Oregon has already knit up our KAL project. The #31 Lace Wrap by Andrea Jurgrau pattern can be found in the holiday issue of the Vogue Knitting magazine. Lidia used Newtons Yarn Superwash Merino in pink and made some changes to the pattern. You need to read her blog and get the whole story, it's a blog you may want to bookmark. It's nice to see another project of our KAL, thank you for that Lidia. It's lovely - it's a generous shawl. I love your version too.
Lara lives in Virginia, but she also is the Director of Social Media with Shalimar Yarns. Here are her finished Falllberry Mitts by Anne Hanson. Lara used Shalimar Yarns Breathless in American Beauty. To see more of what Lara is up to, here is her blog. Thank you Lara for participating and happy holidays to you and yours!
Stephanie lives in Oregon and she has knit this Smitten (a Holiday Garland) by Emily Ivey and Knit Picks. Stephanie used the called for yarn of Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in five colors: Evergreen, Cranberry, Garnet Heather, Brass Heather and Chestnut. I LOVE the colors that Stephanie chose and some people are just really good at that; Stephanie is obviously one of those people. Now Stephanie calls this her Itty Bitty Mitty Calendar, and she plans to use it for an Advent Calendar. She says that it's perfect for a couple of lego men, stickers, mini candy canes and chocolate. I even like her photo - Stephanie is a cool Mom, I can just tell - thank you Stephanie for sharing your work. I LOVE your calendar.
Rebecca comes to us from Tennessee, and she not only knit these mitts, but designed them as well. She calls her pattern Hearts for my Tween Mittens by Rebecca Reveal, and this pattern is a free Ravelry download for Ravelry members. Rebecca used Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash, and also Knit Picks Swish Tonal. I love the colors, the hearts and the sequins. Perfect holiday gift! Thank you Rebecca for sharing your work.
Linda Jo Park of Rathdrum, Idaho is kicking us off this month with her version of the Owlings by Kerrie James. Linda Jo used Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash in Light Brown Heather. Linda Jo lengthened the wrist section and also added a thumb gusset to her project and I just love the beads - very cute. Wouldn't you just love to receive these for your holiday gift. Thank you for sharing your work Linda Jo, and to learn more of Linda Jo, please take a look at her blog.
